One small step…

Yesterday I wrote a post on the Ministry of Education in Israel and their lack of support for Open Source.

Today we are updated that several members of the Open Source community in Israel contacted the person in charge of the tender requiring MS Internet Explorer support (in Hebrew), and the Ministry of Education has expressed their willingness to change the section to include support for Mozilla Firefox!

Even though the members of the Open Source community wanted the tender to include full W3C compliance (and did not get it…) this is definitely one small step in the right direction.

For the full story (in Hebrew) go here.

What can I say? It’s about time…however many other ministries have to catch up too. And there is the IDF requiring MSIE for some parts of their sites. Arrrg!

But some heads up: Most Israeli Banks support today Firefox and other browsers - a big change from just two years ago. Cheers!

There definitely is a lot more work to do on this front…
