Insufficient support is the key drawback to using open source technology, according to “Open Source in the Enterprise: New Software Disrupts the Technology Stack”  the latest survey conducted by Unisphere Research for the IOUG and sponsored by MySQL.

A total of 226 people participated in the survey. Over half (53 percent) were database administrators. More than half (54 percent) indicated that enterprise support for open source technology was not as robust as the support offered by vendors of commercial technology and the lack of support was a significant drawback. Forty-seven percent said that the lack of 24×7 support for many open source applications was a serious limitation. Thirty-five percent said security was a key limitation.
